Carrie Mercado, LPC Associate
Welcome! Whether you are seeking therapy because of recent difficulties or challenges that started decades ago, counseling can help you achieve your goals. My integrative approach includes, but is not limited to, person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness, ensuring every client has a unique therapeutic experience.
My passion is working with adults experiencing anxiety or depression related to past or current circumstances. I have master’s and doctoral degrees in counseling and worked in county, state, and federal hospitals and counseling centers. I have had multiple opportunities to work with veterans across the United States, which included the Michael E. Debakey VA in Houston, TX, the West Haven VA Medical Center, West Haven, CT, and the Central Texas VA in Temple, Texas. In addition, I have had many opportunities to work with college students, in both a teaching and counseling capacity as a counselor in Student Affairs and a faculty member in Student Development at Austin Community College, and as a faculty member in the Psychology Department at Chico State University.
I believe in the strength of the therapeutic relationship, the ability of clients to be experts at sharing their narratives, and the power of an inclusive healing space. Every client, despite life adversities, has the ability to live the life they desire.
To unwind, I enjoy lifting weights, swimming, and spending time in the park with my partner and our two children.
