Hello and Welcome!

Starting or restarting therapy is a brave task. Often we are stuck and need help – and that’s exactly what therapy is for! Whatever you have to bring to session is never too little or too much. We can work on whatever it is you choose. Your experiences and stories are of great interest to me.

Your plan for moving forward can look variously – and we work on this and discuss this frequently!  To start, it’s important to first gather all the data – or puzzle pieces – before we can begin to connect them, so in the first few sessions, I really want to know as much as you feel comfortable sharing. These pieces may be childhood experiences, past traumatic events, workplace drama, religious trauma, or any other number of things. Whatever is coming up for you is important.

Once we have gathered your pieces, we can make a plan on how to connect them and move forward. This may involve EMDR – connecting and releasing negative emotions, bodily sensations, and traumatic memories. Healing may also involve parts work or raising  awareness of unconscious processes, beliefs, or thoughts. We won’t always know what the best plan is until we look at all the pieces involved. Throughout – and as you grow and change – your plan will also need to change, and so we will tweak it accordingly.

A little bit about me: I’m originally from a small mountain town in Colorado but have been in Austin since 1997. I’ve also lived and worked in Latin America (Costa Rica, Guatemala & Mexico City) and Asia (South Korea & Japan). I’m fluent in Spanish and can give a taxi driver incorrect directions in both Korean and Japanese. I’ve spent most of my professional career in academia as a language instructor at UT. I’ve also done contract work for the US State Department, the British Council and Cambridge and have experience starting and running small businesses. I hold an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and also an MA in TESOL and a  PHD in Applied Linguistics from UT Austin. I enjoy walking around Town Lake, cooking, playing with my cat, and journaling. I’m  LGBTQIA+ affirming.
