John Allan, Therapist Intern
My name is John Allan and I’m a graduate student and intern therapist here at Therapy Austin.
As your prospective therapist, know that I am ready to hold space for you in a grounded, calm, and approachable way, and I look forward to guiding you through your unique therapeutic journey. Sometimes this means exploring underlying emotions and how they might contribute to patterns in your life you’d like to change. Or maybe it’s helping you cultivate more self-awareness to lessen anxiety. Or maybe it’s just sitting in the room with you, listening, and hearing your story.
I have a professional background in coaching, group and private yoga teaching, and personal training. In my counseling experience, I’ve worked with clients from various backgrounds who have struggled with issues like anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, relational setbacks, attachment issues and substance use. In my work as a graduate student and therapist intern, I truly honor the therapeutic process and view it as a collaborative space for growth, healing, and self-discovery. I’m interested in working with individuals, couples, and families and exploring different modalities, such as EFT and mindfulness, to facilitate change.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, creating pottery, and hiking and biking the greenbelt trails. I’m happy to call Austin my home for the last 6 years.
I look forward to meeting you where you are in your counseling journey.
